The Schenectady Six-Pack

The Schenectady Six-Pack podcast applies the golden rule of writing (show, don’t tell) to the question writers dread (where do you get your ideas?).

Each episode, I throw some prompts at my guest writer and we see what sticks. Listen in on our messing about and discover deep truths about the nature of creation and inspiration – without a lot of tedious philosophical chin-stroking.

Here’s what Harlan Ellison supposedly tells people who ask where he gets his ideas:

“There’s a swell Idea Service in Schenectady; and every week I send ‘em twenty-five bucks; and every week they send me a fresh six-pack of ideas.”

How do other writers answer the question “where do you get your ideas?” (NB Not the same as “where do other writers get their ideas”)

Listeners: send me your writing prompts! A prompt could be a single word, the set-up for a scene, a character sketch, a news story, an action, a place, a picture, a video, a sound…

Writers: want to be a guest on the show? Introduce yourself and I’ll get back to you with details. (The show does include opportunities to plug your new or upcoming work.)
